Arkansas Birthday Flags and Gifts
Arkansas was admitted to the Union on June 15, 1836 making it the 25th state in the United States of America. The state has a rich history and a passion for the outdoors. It was given its name by the Quapaw Indians that lived in the region. Also known as the Natural State, Arkansas is a tourists dream for all the national parks and museums it has to offer. It is famous for being the first U.S. state where diamonds were found naturally. Arkansas is the home state of the 42nd President of the United States William Jefferson Clinton and his wife Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton.
Arkansas Flag Turns 100 in 2013!
The state had gone 76 years without an official flag. In 1912, the Daughters of the Revolution (D.A.R.) started a contest to create one. The winning design that won was submitted by Miss Willie Hocker of Wabbaseka, a member of the Pine Bluff chapter of the D.A.R., where the search began. Miss Hocker's Arkansas flag became the state's official flag on February 26, 1913. 2013 marks the Arkansas flags 100th Anniversary! The flag was given minor adjustments and the current design was finalized in 1924. Click here for the history of the Arkansas Flag!
