Read one of our latest Flags In The News entries:
"When colonists of the British Empire wanted to irritate the mother country, they would take an imperial flag and put their own touch to it — thus, defacing it. Colonists upset about the Stamp Act taxes and other transgressions of their rulers took a British naval ensign and put a tree to share the space with the symbol of St. George’s cross. That corner field on a flag is called the canton. And that flag with the tree on it is called the Bunker Hill Flag, which dates to 1775. After a breakfast honoring veterans of the U.S. military, members of the Eden Prairie Senior Center heard a presentation about American flags on Wednesday, Nov. 8, from Eden Prairie resident Dick Middleton, a member of American Legion Post 580 in Chanhassen and a former instructor and officer at the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, New York.
