The Bolivian flag was adopted in 1851. It consists of three horizontal stripes of red, yellow, and green, from the top down. The red represents the blood that was shed defending Bolivia. Yellow stands for the country’s wealth and resources. Green symbolizes the wealth of nature and hope for the future. Officially known as the Plurinational State of Bolivia it was named after independence fighter Simon Bolivar.
