Barthelemy Boganda, first president of the autonomous territory Ubangi-Shari, believed that Africa and France must work together. That is why he designed the Central African Republic flag with both the Pan-African colors of green, black, and red, and the French tricolors blue, white, and red. The red on this flag symbolizes the blood of the people who fought for the country’s independence and protection. Blue is symbolic of freedom and the sky. White represents peace and dignity, green represents hope and faith, and yellow stands for tolerance. This flag was adopted in 1958.
