The blue symbolizes the Pacific Ocean, the white symbolizes the snowy Andes mountains, and red stands for the blood spilled to gain independence. Chile’s Flag Day is held annually on July 9th to commemorate the 77 soldiers who died in the 1882 Battle of La Concepcion.
