Federal Republic of Nigeria Flag with Pole Hem and Fringe

The Nigerian flag was designed in 1959 and first hoisted officially in 1960. It is an adaptation of Michael Taiwo Akinkunmi's winning entry into a competition. The original design featured a sun, which was removed. The two green stripes on this flag the forests and natural wealth of Nigeria; the white stripe stands for peace.

This flag is made from durable 200-Denier nylon that has been treated to resist fading. The flag is finished with a 3 in., flannel-lined pole hem with Velcro hang tab and bordered with gold rayon fringe. Its image is dyed, single-sided, and reversed on the back. This flag is suitable for indoor or parade use.

This flag is used by Nigeria's government and displayed at the U.N. Headquarters in New York.
