The Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) adopted this flag in 1979. The blue field represents the Pacific Ocean, while the four stars represent the states in the federation: Chuuk, Pohnpei, Kosrae, and Yap. The blue field is also adopted from the UN flag, while the custom of stars representing states comes from the US flag.
This outdoor flag is made from durable 200-Denier nylon that has been treated to resist fading. The flag is finished with a sturdy white canvas heading and grommets. Its image is dyed, single-sided, and reversed on the back.
This flag is used by FSM's government and displayed at the U.N. Headquarters in New York.
