The Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis adopted this flag in 1983. Its design, taken from a winning entry in a local competition, includes the Pan-African colors. This flag features two stars representing the two islands. The white stars also symbolize hope and liberty. Green represents the islands' fertility and yellow represents year-round sunshine. Black denotes the people's African heritage and red symbolizes the struggle from slavery to colonialism to independence.
This outdoor flag is made from durable 200-Denier nylon that has been treated to resist fading. The flag is finished with a sturdy white canvas heading and grommets. Its image is dyed, single-sided, and reversed on the back.
This flag is used by St. Kitts and Nevis's government and displayed at the U.N. Headquarters in New York.
