The Kenya flag, based on that of the Kenya Africa National Union, was adopted in 1963. The black stripe represents the black majority, red represents blood spilled during the struggle for freedom, and green represents the land. The white fimbriation was added later and stands for peace. At the center of the flag is a traditional Maasai shield and 2 spears to symbolize defense of the above mentioned things.
This outdoor flag is made from durable 200-Denier nylon that has been treated to resist fading. The flag is finished with a sturdy white canvas heading and grommets. Its image is dyed, single-sided, and reversed on the back.
This flag is used by Kenya's government and displayed at the U.N. Headquarters in New York.
