Oman adopted this flag in 1995. The upper-left corner contains Oman's national emblem, crossed swords over a khanjar
, a traditional curved dagger. White stands for peace and prosperity and is historically associated with the Imam, Oman's religious leader. Green represents fertility and the Jebel al Akhdar
or "Green Mountains" to the country's north. Red, common to Gulf state flags, symbolizes battles against foreign invaders.
This outdoor flag is made from durable 200-Denier nylon that has been treated to resist fading. The flag is finished with a sturdy white canvas heading and grommets. Its image is dyed, single-sided, and reversed on the back.
This flag is used by Oman's government and displayed at the U.N. Headquarters in New York.
