Panama adopted this flag in 1925. It was designed by Maria Ossa de Amador and emphasized the political situation of the time. The stars and quarters represent rival political parties and white symbolizes the peace in which they operate. Blue is the color of the Conservatives and red represents the Liberals. The blue star stands for purity and honesty and the red star symbolizes authority and law; together, the stars represent the new republic.
This outdoor flag is made from durable 200-Denier nylon that has been treated to resist fading. The flag is finished with a sturdy white canvas heading and grommets. Its image is dyed, single-sided, and reversed on the back.
This flag is used by Panama's government and displayed at the U.N. Headquarters in New York.
