Burundi’s flag was adopted in 1967. Green symbolizes hope, white stands for peace, and red represents those who fell during the fight for independence. The 3 stars represent the 3 major ethnic groups in Burundi: the Hutu, the Twa, and the Tutsi. The 3 stars also represent the 3 parts to Burundi’s motto: Unite, Travail, Progres
, or “Unity, Work, Progress.”
This flag is made from durable 200-Denier nylon that has been treated to resist fading.
