The Congo flag was originally adopted in 1958, but was replaced in 1970 under the People's Republic of the Congo socialist party. The flag was readopted in 1991. The Pan-African colors on this flag stem from Ethiopia's flag, while its diagonal stripes set it apart from other Pan-African flags.
This flag is made from durable 200-Denier nylon that has been treated to resist fading. The flag is finished with a 3 in., flannel-lined pole hem with Velcro hang tab and bordered with gold rayon fringe. Its image is dyed, single-sided, and reversed on the back. This flag is suitable for indoor or parade use.
This flag is used by Congo's government and displayed at the U.N. Headquarters in New York.
