Sudan’s flag, adopted in 1970, gets its colors from the Arab Liberation Flag. These colors are historically linked with Islam and represent Arab unity. Red represents Sudan’s struggle for independence and the blood of its martyrs. White represents peace, light, and optimism. Black represents Sudan, which means “black” in Arabic. Green is for Islam, agriculture, and prosperity.
