Although it is thought that this flag was used as early as 1668, Russia adopted it in 1993. The colors appear on Moscow's coat of arms and are associated with the Virgin Mary. One interpretation states that white's placement at the top of the flag signifies a bright future. Under this interpretation, blue represents a cloudy present and red, a bloody past.
This outdoor flag is made from durable 200-Denier nylon that has been treated to resist fading. The flag is finished with a sturdy white canvas heading and grommets. Its image is dyed, single-sided, and reversed on the back.
This flag is used by Russia's government and displayed at the U.N. Headquarters in New York.
