South Africa adopted this flag in 1994. It was designed by State Herald Frederick Brownell. This flag combines principle elements of South Africa’s flag history. The Y shape can be seen as diverse elements in the country’s history uniting. The colors come from the Pan-African flag, the Dutch and UK flags, and the former South African flag.
This flag is made from durable 200-Denier nylon that has been treated to resist fading. The flag is finished with a 3 in., flannel-lined pole hem with Velcro tabs for hanging. Its image is dyed, single-sided, and reversed on the back. This flag is suitable for indoor or parade use.
This flag is used by South Africa’s government and displayed at the U.N. Headquarters in New York.
