The Turkish flag, also known as Ayyildiz
(moon-star) or Albayrak
(red flag), was adopted in 1844 with the Tanzimat reforms in the Ottoman Empire. Red became the color of the Ottoman Empire in the 14th century. The moon and star symbolize the Tengriist beliefs of the sky-worshipping ancient Turks.
This outdoor flag is made from durable 200-Denier nylon that has been treated to resist fading. The flag is finished with a sturdy white canvas heading and grommets. Its image is dyed, single-sided, and reversed on the back.
This flag is used by Turkey's government and displayed at the U.N. Headquarters in New York.
