Tuvalu adopted this flag in 1978 after independence. The 9 yellow stars represent the 9 islands that comprise Tuvalu. The blue background recalls the Pacific Ocean, with the stars representing the islands’ geographical positions. The Union Jack refers the Tuvalu’s period of colonization under the British.
This flag is made from durable 200-Denier nylon that has been treated to resist fading. The flag is finished with a 3 in., flannel-lined pole hem with Velcro hang tab and bordered with gold rayon fringe. Its image is dyed, single-sided, and reversed on the back. This flag is suitable for indoor or parade use.
This flag is used by Tuvalu’s government and displayed at the U.N. Headquarters in New York.
