Hunting in Arkansas is not only a favorite outdoor sport in the Natural State but it is also big business and draws hunters from not just Arkansas but around the world, helping to build our state’s economy.
Arkansas is known throughout the country for its fantastic duck hunting along the Mississippi Flyway in the Arkansas Delta. Not only is it a prime spot for waterfowl enthusiasts, it is rich in state history. More mallards are taken in Arkansas than in any other state.
Duck, Coot, American and Merganser species season runs Nov. 23 – Dec. 1then Dec. 5-Dec. 23. And again Dec. 26-Jan. 26.
Daily shooting hours are 30 minutes before sunrise until sunset. Daily bag limit is 6. Check with Arkansas Game and Fish Commission at www.agfc.com for more specifics on limits.
Nov. 28-29 – Duck hunters get into the swing of things during the 79th annual World’s Championship Duck Calling Contest and Wings Over the Prairie Festival in Stuttgart. Most events are free and include duck calling contests, arts and crafts, hunting goods for sale, beauty pageants and a 10K race, plus the World Championship Duck Gumbo Cook-off. Deer season opening dates are Muzzleloader Saturday, Oct. 18, 2014 and Modern Gun Saturday, Nov. 8, 2014.
Bow season began on Sept. 27 and will end Feb. 28, 2015. Check Online with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission www.agfc.com for specific regions and bag limits. Shooting hours are 30 minutes before sunrise until 30 minutes after sunset.
Please note, zones 4, 5, 4B and 5B are closed to muzzleloader season this year. Also dogs are prohibited in many zones please check with AGFC about dog allowance for your zone.
Nov. 1-Nov. 2 and again Jan. 3-Jan. 4 – Special Youth Modern Gun: Only youth 6 to 15 years old may harvest deer during the special youth modern gun deer hunt. Youth who have completed hunter education must be accompanied by an adult at least 18 years old. Youths who have not completed hunter education must be under the direct supervision of an adult at least 21 years old.
Youth may harvest the modern gun limit for their zone. No dogs allowed. Bowhunters may hunt during the youth hunt, but must wear hunter orange.
Dec. 26-28 – Holiday Deer Hunt: The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission has announced a Modern Gun Christmas Holiday deer season this year opening on 12/26 and ending 12/28.

Modern guns are restricted to: muzzle loaders; shotguns (.410 or larger) with slugs; or pistols having barrels 4 to 10 inches long, chambered for straight-wall center-fire cartridges and using lead, lead alloy, soft nose or hollow point bullets .30 caliber or larger.
