Nick Shoulders is originally from Fayetteville, AR, and now maintains dual residency between Little Rock and (until the outbreak of COVID-19) New Orleans, LA. His band, Nick Shoulders and the Okay Crawdad, performs old-time country and honky tonk music that features whistling, yodels, the mouth trumpet and more. Nick combines his family's deep ties to southern traditional music with years singing on empty street corners to create this hybridized form of raucous country music.
Rural America recently published an article authored by Shoulders: Fake Twang: How White Conservatism Stole Country Music where he explains the diverse origins of country music and offers an inclusive definition of “American traditional music.”
