The state had gone 76 years without an official flag. In 1912, the Daughters of the Revolution (D.A.R.) started a contest to create one. The winning design that won was submitted by Miss Willie Hocker of Wabbaseka, a member of the Pine Bluff chapter of the D.A.R., where the search began. Miss Hocker's Arkansas flag became the state's official flag on February 26, 1913. 2013 marks the Arkansas flags 100th Anniversary!
