Volume 7 Issue 1 Spring-Summer 2020

tairs come in many forms. Some are spiral, seeming to turn back on themselves. Some are enclosed and some wide open. There are stairs with handrails to help the climber and there are escalators that do the work for you. Stairs hold the symbolism of ascent (Stairway to Heaven) and challenge (Rocky at the top of the Philadelphia Art Museum).
They are a testament of human ingenuity – building a path to reach unattainable heights. However, standing at the bottom of a seemingly endless flight of stairs can be overwhelming, making it hard to contemplate where even to begin. At that moment, bravery can simply be the act of taking one more step. That next step may take you a little further up the path, toward your goal. The act of moving creates the energy required to keep going. This edition of Brave contains stories of people that dared to take the next step.
We also have a virtual travel and event section, a trendy Instant Pot recipe and an article transcribed from Kerry’s radio show, Up In Your Business, featuring the stairs of change at Central High School. Remember flag flying season is upon us. Show your solidarity during this time of social distancing by flying Old Glory. We are all in this together.
Be Brave—take the next step,
