A Yacht Ensign is allowed by some nations to be hoisted as the national ensign by yachts. The Yacht Ensign differs from Merchant Ensigns and is used to indicate the yacht is not carrying any cargo which would require a customs declaration. Carrying commercial cargo on a boat with a Yacht Ensign is considered smuggling in many jurisdictions.
